This is a new windshield washer fluid reservoir It was installed on 1979-1985 Avantis. This was Avanti engineering at it’s best in the design of a new part. It was designed to set on top of the fire wall directly in front of the driver. As the picture shows, it has a stepped top design for clearance of the hood’s gun sight. On 1979-1985 it was bolted to the top to the firewall from the factory. It will fit 1963– 1964 Studebaker Avantis and 1965-4978, you will have to drill 2 holes in the top of the fire wall and tighten the 2 nuts from under the dash. Some people have attached it to the top of the firewall with velcro to eliminate drilling holes. If you choose to use velcro on the retro fit. I would suggest some kind of secondary restraint so it can’t come loose and jamb something like the brake booster or accelerator linkage. It does replace the bag which was used from 1963-1978 P# 1540413. It’s made of white frosted plastic.
