Studebaker Avanti, Avanti Heat Sink & Cables Transigniter
This is a new heat sink and cables transigniter Studebaker Avanti part Number 1560561.
It’s a NOS part, still in the original Studebaker box that says superior performance guaranteed Studebaker Packard Corporation.
According to the Studebaker Avanti parts book, page number 63, it was a special order part for the R1 & R2. The unit has 3 wires that are all 8’ long with a ring terminal on the end of each. Black wire labeled “Ground”, light blue wire labeled “Distributor” and a red wire labeled “Ballast”. On one end of the finned unit, it has a sliver label with blue lettering “PRESTOLITE P32-38” The unit is completely sealed. This ultra rare special order part would look very cool under the hood. The parts book says you need 2 well nuts for mounting. I have included 2 well nuts, 2 stainless flat washers, 2 stainless lock washers and 2 stainless bolts. This was Studebakers Transistorized iginition and way ahead of other auto manufacturers.
The only place I know of in the original Studebaker parts or service manual that they show a picture is on page # 55 in the parts book, dated December 1963. Illustration #0602-4, it is referred to as “Transistorized Ignition System”
