Modern Sound, Factory Look: Installing a No-Cut Custom Radio in your 1963-1985 Avanti
One of the quickest ways to ruin the value of an Avanti is by "butchering" the fiberglass dash to fit a modern stereo. In this guide, Dan Booth explains how to achieve the best of both worlds: modern high-quality audio with a 100% factory-correct appearance.
Discover the advantages of using compact, brand-free Custom Auto Sound units like the USA 640 and USA 740. Dan walks you through the professional installation process, from adjusting knob shaft spacing to fit the NOS 2nd-design Radio Bezel (#1558985) to custom-fitting authentic wood or aluminum overlays. Whether you are dealing with a standard 1963 Studebaker dash or a later Avanti II console, this guide provides the measurements and "specialist's secrets"—including how to repair previously enlarged shaft holes—to ensure your new radio looks like it was installed in South Bend.

Avanti AM Radio Conversion to AM/FM Stereo
Convert your original 1963-64 Studebaker Avanti AM radio to a AM/FM stereo. 1965– 1973 (about) Avanti motors installed the original Studebaker Avanti radio in many of Avantis produced. They put tape over the name, “Studebaker”. They can also be converted to AM/FM stereo. No dash modifications will be necessary because the same radio you took out, will be the same radio you reinstall. Only the inner electronics will be changed. Everything looks the same on the outside, same knobs, same chrome face and etc.
For a little more,
